Highway Bureau, MOTC
The Highway Bureau is committed to provincial highway engineering, highway transportation management and highway supervision, simplifying administration and facilitating the people. The business scope is divided into three categories: road engineering, road transportation and road supervision, providing convenient and safe services for the public.

Required documents:

  1. Original “New License Plate Registration Forms” (not required for private small vehicles and large heavy motorcycles).
  2. Vehicle registration certificate.
  3. Compulsory automobile liability insurance certificate (with a validity more than 30 days).
  4. For individual taxi drivers, please submit taxi driver business registration certificate.
  5. Commercial heavy passenger vehicles that have been manufactured for more than 10 years must submit the maintenance list in the last four months issued by the vehicle maintenance plant.
  6. Vehicles using liquefied petroleum gas (LPG or dual fuel) as fuel should submit the testing record issued by the qualified factory within one month.

Inspection fees:

  1. Large vehicles (including tractors): NT$600
  2. Small vehicles: NT$450
  3. Trailers: NT$450
  4. Heavy and light motorcycles: NT$200
  5. Large heavy motorcycles: NT$200
  6. Vehicle spare engine: NT$450
  7. The second inspection of the year for small vehicles manufactured more than 10 years: NT$300

Notes:

  1. Please follow the periodic inspection date on the vehicle registration certificate, and take the vehicles to Motor Vehicles Office or the authorized vehicle inspection companies nearby for periodic inspection a month prior and a month after the date specified (for commercial heavy passenger vehicles that have been manufactured for more than 10 years shall be within one month before the specified inspection date) to avoid penalty.
  2. The validity on the automobile insurance certificate must be more than 30 days. Please deal with insurance renewal if the validity is less than 30 days.
  3. Please ensure that all infringements for the compulsory insurance are cleared prior to inspection.
  4. Vehicles violating “Road Traffic Safety Regulation Article 17” (vehicles not following periodic or temporary inspection by the inspection deadline) and are reported with record as well as overdue from the specified inspection date on the vehicle registration certificate for more than seven months must not deal with the inspection at the authorized vehicle inspection company.
  5. A fine of NT$900 to NT$1,800 will be imposed if the overdue inspection is more than one month from the specified inspection date on the vehicle registration certificate.
