The Highway Bureau is committed to provincial highway engineering, highway transportation management and highway supervision, simplifying administration and facilitating the people. The business scope is divided into three categories: road engineering, road transportation and road supervision, providing convenient and safe services for the public.

Trainees who complete training at vehicle inspector and driving test examiner workshop and pass the qualification exam will be reported to Ministry of Transportation and Communications for the issuance of vehicle inspector certificate, driving test examiner certificate, and certificate of conformity.

Qualification exam schedule

Coordinate with the three workshops for vehicle inspection and driving test examiners provided by Training Institute, and qualification exam for academic subjects and skill subjects will be held after the completion of each workshop. For the first workshop, the academic subject qualification exam will be held in April and skill test in May. For the second workshop, the academic subject qualification exam will be held in July and skill test in September. For the third workshop, the academic subject qualification exam will be held in November and skill test in December.

The annual qualification exam for vehicle inspectors and driving test examiners will be held by Training Institute and those who pass the exam will be reported to Ministry of Transportation and Communications to issue vehicle inspector certificate, driving test examiner certificate, and certificate of conformity.

Qualification exam schedule

It will be held once every year; the registration starts in March with academic subject exam in May and skill test in June (the correct schedule will be subject to the announcement by Directorate General of Highways, and please refer to the exam announcement and general regulations).

The requirements for vehicle inspector qualification exam:

  1. At least 20 years old.
  2. With one of the following education backgrounds or experiences:
    • Graduates of automobile, agricultural machinery, heavy machinery, and mechanical departments from senior high (vocational) schools or equivalent military senior high (vocational) schools.
    • Graduates from senior high (vocational) schools or equivalent military senior high (vocational) schools with a major not listed above but with automobile technician certificate or certificate of level C technician for automotive mechanic or above.
    • Obtained automobile technician certificate or certificate of level B technician for automotive mechanic or above for more than one year.
    • Current (former) engineers commissioned by the highway supervision authority or engineers equivalent to commissioned level.
  3. With automobile driving license above the type of vehicle inspected.
  4. With the nationality of the ROC.
