  • How can I apply for the reissuance of automobile or motorcycle vehicle registration certificate if it is damaged or lost?

    Required documents:
    1. Original copy of vehicle owner’s national I.D. card (or military services I.D. card or alien residence permit) (in individual’s name); official letters issued by the competent authority for the approval of the company’s or establishment’s registration (please enclose registration form if it is a company) or registration certificate issued by the competent authority for the company’s or the establishment’s (in the company’s name).
    2. Compulsory automobile liability insurance certificate (with validity more than 30 days).
    3. Seal (only applicable to cross-district application).
    B. Place of application:
    Please deal with it at the counter for change in the highway supervision authority.
    C. Fees:
    Vehicle registration certificate for automobile: NT$200
    Vehicle registration certificate for motorcycle: NT$150
    D. Notes:
    1. Companies and establishments that submit photocopies of above documents for verification must provide a copy of the latest business tax payment certificate.
    2. Please pay off any outstanding penalty for violation first as well as overdue vehicle license tax and fuel tax (please enclose payment receipt if it has been paid within the past two months).
    3. According to the provision of Compulsory Automobile Liability Insurance Act, no vehicle registration certificate will be reissued if the validity of compulsory automobile liability certificate is less than 30 days.
    4. If the automobile and large heavy motorcycle have not been inspected by the deadline, applicants shall first carry out vehicle inspection.

  • How can I renew the vehicle registration certificate when it is expired?

    Type of vehicle:
    From January 1st, 2013, the following vehicles are exempted from the renewal of the certificate:
    1. Vehicle registration certificate for private automobile except school bus, children-only bus, and ambulance.
    2. Vehicle registration certificate for motorcycles.
    3. Private trailer permit
    B. Required documents:
    1. Vehicle registration certificate.
    2. Compulsory automobile liability insurance certificate (with validity more than 30 days).
    C. Place of application:
    Counters for vehicle certificate renewal at each highway supervision authority or submit the application through internet, phone message, convenience store or by post (should pay for handling charge and postage for registered mail.
    D. Fees:
    NT$200
    E. Notes:
    1. Vehicle registration certificate should be renewed every three years.
    2. Please pay off any outstanding penalty for violation first as well as overdue vehicle license tax and fuel tax (please enclose payment receipt if it has been paid within the past two months). (For vehicle license tax, it is based on advice for payment.)
    3. If the vehicle has not been inspected by the deadline, applicants shall first carry out vehicle inspection.

  • What can I do if the registration is due to expire, but I have settled all of my creditor’s rights?

    According to Article 9 of Personal Property Secured Transaction Act, within 30 days prior to the end of that period, the creditor may apply for an extension of the registration period, which shall be effective from the day following the end of the original registration period. The effective period of an extension of the registration period as stipulated in the preceding paragraph may not exceed one year but there is no limitation on the number of times of extension.
    To deal with the extension registration of movable property as a guarantee on my vehicle, please follow:
    1. Over the counter: Please submit one copy of original registration of creation form (creditor’s copy), one copy of contract, extension registration form in triplicate, and a fee of NT$450 and deal with it over the counter for property secured transaction at the local Motor Vehicles Office.

  • How can I apply for the change of equipment, color, type, and seat on the automobile or motorcycle?

    Required documents:

    1.Registration modification form for automobiles and motorcycles that pass the inspection.

    2.Vehicle registration certificate.

    3.Compulsory automobile liability insurance certificate (with validity more than 30 days).

    4.New vehicle license registration form.

    5.Unified invoice (not applicable to the change of vehicle color).

    B.Place of application:

    Please pay for inspection for change registration at the vehicle testing room in the highway supervision authority to carry out vehicle inspection. After passing the inspection, please go to the counter for change to deal with the application.

    C.Fees:

    Vehicle registration fee for automobile (trailer): NT$200 and NT$150 for motorcycles. Vehicle inspection fee: NT$450 for small vehicles, NT$600 for large vehicles, and NT$200 for motorcycles

    D.Notes:

    1.Please pay off any outstanding penalty for violation first as well as overdue vehicle license tax and fuel fee (please enclose payment receipt if it has been paid within the past two months).

    2.The vehicle registration modification shall be completed within one month after passing the inspection for change; if it is overdue, the inspection shall be done again.

    3.According to the provision of Compulsory Automobile Liability Insurance Act, no change on the registration will be allowed if the validity of compulsory automobile liability certificate is less than 30 days.

    E.Regulations for the modification on the vehicle equipment:

    1.Items that are not allowed to be modified on the vehicle equipment specification:

    Chassis equipment:

    1)The position of the steering wheel.

    2)Transmission system equipment: It refers to the gear type, drive method, transmission box, and gearbox.

    3)Braking equipment: It refers to the type of braking (master cylinder, slave cylinder, and oil piping) and anti-skid brake system.

    4)Suspension system: It refers to supporting arm, swinging arm, and linkage mechanism.

    5)Wheelbase specification.

    Engine equipment: It refers to machinal or turbo system and nitrogen introduction equipment on the engine.

    Bodywork equipment:

    1)Light decoration attached on the outer of bodywork.

    2)Color-sprayed vehicle lamp or with adhesive paper attached.

    3)Other items that are approved by the competent authority.

    2.Motorcycle equipment specification that is not allowed to be modified:

    1)Engine equipment: It refers to machinal or turbo system and nitrogen introduction equipment on the engine.

    2)Bodywork equipment: Color-sprayed vehicle lamp or with adhesive paper attached.

    3)Quantity of exhaust pipe or the installation location on the left and right sides.

    4)Other items that are approved by the competent authority.

    3.Requirements or testing standards for the change of vehicle equipment specification:

    It should follow the provisions on Attachment 15 of Regulations of Road Traffic Safety.

  • What are the fees for equipment inspection and registration for modifying the vehicle that has been issues license plate with wheelchair area installation?

    1. Large vehicle inspection fee: NT$600
    2. Small vehicle inspection fee: NT$450
    3. Vehicle registration fee: NT$200
    4. Vehicles that failed to pass inspection will be exempted from re-inspection fee if the first re-inspection is carried out within 7 days after the original inspection date. For the rest, a fee for re-inspection will still be imposed.

  • How can I apply for re-inspection on the vehicle that fails to pass inspection? Do I need to pay for the inspection fee again?

    1. When the inspection is failed, the vehicle should be corrected within one month and apply for re-inspection.
    2. If the re-inspection is carried out within 7 days, no charge will be imposed for the first re-inspection. The re-inspection fee will be imposed for the inspection on and from the 8th day.
    3. Only failed items will be inspected during the re-inspection.

  • How can I apply for reissuance of license plate if my automobile or motorcycle plate is damaged or lost?

Damaged license plate: two plates for automobile, one plate for motorcycles, and two plates for large heavy motorcycles with a cubic capacity exceeding 550 cm3 or proof of the stolen vehicle plate issued by the police (if one plate of the two license plates for automobile or large heavy motorcycles with a cubic capacity exceeding 550 cm3 is lost, please return the other plate).
    B. Place of application:
    Please go to the highway supervision authority to deal with reissuance of vehicle license plate application first before dealing with it at the counter for change.
    C. Fees:
    1. License plate fee: NT$600 for automobile, NT$300 for motorcycles with a cubic capacity not exceeding 550 cm3, and NT$400 for motorcycles with a cubic capacity exceeding 550 cm3.
    2. Please pay for vehicle registration certificate fee if the validity on the certificate is due: NT$200 for automobile.
    3. It is free for real vehicle check, but inspection fee will be required if it is combined with the overdue or due periodic inspection. Inspection fee is NT$600 for large vehicles, NT$450 for small vehicles, and NT$200 for motorcycles.
    D. Notes:
    1. Companies and establishments that submit photocopies of above documents for verification must provide a copy of the latest business tax payment certificate.
    2. Please pay off any outstanding penalty for violation first as well as overdue vehicle license tax and fuel tax (please enclose payment receipt if it has been paid within the past two months).
    3. Other than passing temporary inspection for reissuance of license plate due to damage or loss, periodic inspection shall be carried out at the same time if the vehicle is due or overdue for periodic inspection.
    4. If it is involved with vehicle loan, please submit the consent letter from the creditor.
