  • How can I deal with suspension of use or hand in for cancellation if my vehicle is not in use for any reason?

    Required documents:
    1. Original copy of vehicle owner’s national I.D. card (or military services I.D. card or alien residence permit) (in individual’s name); official letters issued by the competent authority for the approval of the company’s or establishment’s registration (please enclose registration form if it is a company) or registration certificate issued by the competent authority for the company’s or the establishment’s and seal (in the company’s name).
    2. Vehicle registration certificate.
    3. Two license plates.

    C. Notes:
    1. Companies and establishments that submit photocopies of above documents for verification must provide a copy of the latest business tax payment certificate.
    2. Please pay off any outstanding penalty for violation first as well as overdue vehicle license tax and fuel tax (please enclose payment receipt if it has been paid within the past two months).
    3. Suspension of use shall not exceed one year, and please apply for license plate revocation when overdue.
    4. If the date of periodic inspection is overdue when applying for suspension of use, an overdue penalty of NT$900 will be imposed.
    5. If the vehicle for hand in cancellation is registered with movable property as a guarantee, please deal with the revocation registration of the movable property as a guarantee first.

  • How can I apply for resumption of use on the vehicle that is registered suspension of use?

    1. Original copy of vehicle owner’s national I.D. card (or military services I.D. card or alien residence permit) (in individual’s name); official letters issued by the competent authority for the approval of the company’s or establishment’s registration (please enclose registration form if it is a company) or registration certificate issued by the competent authority for the company’s or the establishment’s and seal (in the company’s name).
    2. Original vehicle suspension of use registration form.
    3. Compulsory automobile liability insurance certificate (with validity more than 30 days).

    1. Companies and establishments that submit photocopies of above documents for verification must provide a copy of the latest business tax payment certificate.

    3. Vehicles with due (overdue) periodic inspection when applying for resumption of use or vehicles that have been suspended of use for more than 3 months shall pass inspection first.
    4. Vehicles that have been suspended of use for more than one year shall deal with license plate revocation when applying for resumption of use first and then carry out inspection again before applying for reissuance of license plate.
    5. According to the provision in the Compulsory Automobile Liability Insurance Act, no resumption of use can be carried out if the validity on the insurance certificate is less than 30 days.

  • How can I apply for vehicle or motorcycle disposal?

    Required documents:
    1. Original copy of vehicle owner’s national I.D. card (or military services I.D. card or alien residence permit), and photocopy is acceptable for application by post (in individual’s name); official letters issued by the competent authority for the approval of the company’s or establishment’s registration (please enclose registration form if it is a company) or registration certificate issued by the competent authority for the company’s or the establishment’s and seal (in the company’s name).
    2. Seal (only applicable to cross-district application).
    3. Vehicle registration certificate.
    4. Original new license plate registration form (not applicable to private small vehicles and motorcycles).
    5. License plate: two plates for automobile, one plate for motorcycles, and two plates for large heavy motorcycles with a cubic capacity exceeding 550 cm3.
    B. Place of application:

    C. Notes:
    1. Companies and establishments that submit photocopies of above documents for verification must provide a copy of the latest business tax payment certificate.

    3. Vehicles that have been registered disposal must not re-apply for registration, inspection, and reissuance of license plate.

    5. If the license is lost, please report to the police first and enclose the proof of the stolen vehicle plate issued by the police along with the application.

  • How can I apply for small vehicle or motorcycle transfer?

    Required documents:
    1. Transfer registration form.
    2. Original copy of national I.D. card from both the buyer and the seller (or military service I.D. card or alien residence permit). (In individual’s name: Please submit two forms of I.D. for verification if it is entrusted to the any person that is not working in the commissioned vehicle trading industry. Please refer to Notes. 6). Please submit official letters issued by the competent authority for the approval of the company’s or establishment’s registration (please enclose registration form if it is a company) or registration certificate issued by the competent authority for the company’s or the establishment’s (in the company’s name).)
    3. Seals from the buyer and the seller.
    4. Vehicle registration certificate from the original owner.
    5. Compulsory automobile liability insurance certificate (with validity more than 30 days) provided by the new vehicle owner.
    6. New vehicle license plate registration form (not applicable motorcycles).
    B. Place of application:
    Please deal with it at the counter for change in the highway supervision authority.
    C. Fees:
    Vehicle registration fee: NT$200 for automobile and NT$150 for motorcycle.
    D. Notes:
    1. Companies and establishments that submit photocopies of above documents for verification must provide a copy of the latest business tax payment certificate.
    2. Please pay off any outstanding penalty for violation first as well as overdue vehicle license tax and fuel tax as well as the taxes of the year (please enclose payment receipt if it has been paid within the past two months).
    3. If the vehicle is registered with movable property as a guarantee, please deal with the revocation registration of movable property as a guarantee first. Vehicles that are forbidden to change due to court order or notice from judiciary, public security organization or tax collection office will not be able to apply for transfer before cancellation.
    4. According to the provision in the Compulsory Automobile Liability Insurance Act, no transfer registration can be carried out if the validity on the insurance certificate is less than 30 days.
    5. Vehicles that have been manufactured for more than 10 years and motorcycles for more than 5 years must pass temporary inspection before dealing with transfer.
    6. If the transfer is entrusted to anyone who is not working in the vehicle trading industry, please submit the entrusted person’s I.D. card and vehicle owners’ valid driving license or national health insurance cards or passports (including the buyer’s and the seller’s) other than the required documents above. However, notarized documents by the court or private notary publics can be used to replace vehicle owners’ valid driving license or national health insurance cards or passports.

  • What is the regulation for the frequency of automobile periodic inspection?

    1. Private small vehicles (except LPG cars and leased cars) will be exempted from inspection for the first five years after being issued license plate. One inspection every year will be required between 5 and 10 years, and two inspections will be required for more than 10 years.
    2. Commercial large passenger vehicles or high-pressure tank vehicles that have been manufactured for more than 10 years must be carried out at least 3 inspections every year.
    3. One inspection every year for trailers.
    4. Other vehicles that were manufactured less than 5 years will need to be inspected once every year and twice every year for vehicles more than 5 years.

  • What is the punishment on the vehicle with overdue and unpaid tax when it is found after overdue?

    According to the provision of Article 28-1 in Vehicle License Tax Act, where it is discovered that a vehicle charged with unpaid tax continues to be driven on public roads or rivers, the tax collection authority shall order its owner or user to pay the tax due plus a fine no more than one times the amount of tax owed and shall not impose the surcharge of described in Article 25.

  • How can I apply for vehicle transfer for inheritance due to the death of vehicle or motorcycle owner?

    1. Successor’s I.D. card and seal.
    2. Vehicle registration certificate.
    3. Compulsory automobile liability insurance certificate under the successor’s name (with a validity more than 30 days).
    4. Original new vehicle license plate registration form.
    5. Inheritance tax payment completion certificate or exemption certificate or certificate of exclusions from gross estate.
    6. Inheritance certificate (consent letter for waiver of succession or right of succession or resolution letter from family meeting as well as full household transcript or court certification).

  • What can I do if the registration is due to expire, but I have settled all of my creditor’s rights?

    According to Article 9 of Personal Property Secured Transaction Act, within 30 days prior to the end of that period, the creditor may apply for an extension of the registration period, which shall be effective from the day following the end of the original registration period. The effective period of an extension of the registration period as stipulated in the preceding paragraph may not exceed one year but there is no limitation on the number of times of extension.
    To deal with the extension registration of movable property as a guarantee on my vehicle, please follow:
    1. Over the counter: Please submit one copy of original registration of creation form (creditor’s copy), one copy of contract, extension registration form in triplicate, and a fee of NT$450 and deal with it over the counter for property secured transaction at the local Motor Vehicles Office.
