  • How can I apply for reissuance of a lost or damaged automobile (motorcycle) driving license?

    1. Required documents:
    1) Any of the following identity documents (original copy): National I.D. card, military I.D. card, alien residence permit, or another valid driving license.
    2) Damaged driving license (not applicable to the lost).
    3) Two 2-inch color photos with glossy single-color background, without wearing hat, with clear facial features, bust shot, and were taken within past 2 years. Do not use image synthesis.
    4) One automobile (motorcycle) driver reviewing and change registration form.
    2. Fee: Driving license fee: NT$200.
    3. Notes:
    1) Please pay off any outstanding fine for violations or road safety seminar penalties before applying for license reissuance.
    2) If the professional driving license is due for the date of reviewing, please deal with the driving license reviewing at the same time.
    3) If it is entrusted to other person to submit the application, the entrusted person should bring the original copy of national I.D. card for verification.

  • What are the items of written exam and road test for automobile (motorcycle) driving license and the approval standards?

    1. Written exam: It includes traffic regulations and mechanical knowledge; exam for mechanical knowledge will be waived for those who apply for general driving license.
    2. Road test:
    a. Test items for motorcycle driving license:
    1) Railroad crossing.
    2) Zebra crossing.
    3) Intersection.
    4) Balance on a straight line.
    5) Two-stage left turn
    6) Changing lanes.
    7) Stop and go.
    8) 90-degree turn.
    b. Test items for vehicle driving license:
    1) Reverse into a garage.
    2) Driving forward and backward on a curving road (no point deduction for touching sensor line when reversing on small vehicle driving license test).
    3) Parallel parking at roadside.
    4) Turning round in a curved alley (not applicable to small vehicle driving license test).
    5) Narrow bridge (not applicable to small vehicle).
    6) Ascending and descending slope.
    7) Stable gear changing test.
    8) Zebra crossing.
    9) Railroad crossing.
    10) Intersection.
    11) Road test.
    3. Approval standard: The highest score for each subject is 100 and the standard need to be passed is 85 for traffic regulations, 60 for mechanical knowledge, and 70 for road test. Applicants who do not pass written exam will not be allowed to participate in the road test.
    4. Application for re-test for written exam or road test must have an interval from the last test of at least 7 days.
    5. Notes: Drivers who have granted general driving license for more than 3 months can register the professional driving license test at the same level of vehicle type. Other than the qualification required, they shall sit for the subjects for professional driving license test. The subject for written exam is mechanical knowledge and the items for road test is driving forward and backward on a curving road as well as turning round in a curved alley.

  • What are the penalty provisions for the renewal of automobile (motorcycle) driving license or relevant legal regulations?

    According to Article 52 of Regulations for Road Traffic Safety, the validity of driving license:
    1. From July 1st, 2013, general driving licenses that are newly issued or have been granted are exempted from periodic renewal. The driving license will continue being valid after expiration and no license renewal will be required. The same rule applies to alien residence permit grained to foreigners.
    2. Drivers who are punished permanently prohibited from driving license test apply for re-test will be granted driving license with one-year validity if they pass the reviewing.
    3. Foreigners, people from Mainland China area, residents in Hong Kong or Macau, or nationals without household registration in the Taiwan area who obtain the driving license in our country shall renew the license every 6 years.
    4. Drivers at a specific age or above who apply to another rule for the validity of driving license and license renewal should follow the additional rule accordingly.
    5. Vehicle drivers shall apply for license renewal to the highway supervision authority within one month before or after expiration. Except the provision of exemption from license renewal specified above, drivers who fail to renew the license after expiration shall not be allowed to drive.
    According to Article 22 of Road Traffic Management and Penalty Act, a fine of NT$1800~3600 will be imposed if driving with overdue driving. Drivers will then be forbidden from driving and the license will be withheld.

  • How can I renew my expired automobile (motorcycle) driving license?

    General driving license and motorcycle driving license that are newly-issued or have been granted on or before July 1st, 2013 will be exempted from renewal. (Foreigners who have not obtain alien residence permit, people from Mainland China, residences in Hong Kong or Macau or nationals with no household registration in the Taiwan area who obtain driving license in our country, and those who are punished permanently prohibited from driving license test apply for re-test and obtain one-year driving license shall maintain the regulation of periodic renewal. )
    1. Required documents:
    1) Original copy of any of the following identity documents:
    National I.D. card, Military I.D. card, alien residence permit or another valid driving license. (Photocopy will be acceptable if the applicant submits the application in person.)
    2) The obtained driving license.
    3) One one-inch color photo with glossy single-color background, without wearing hat, with clear facial features, bust shot, and was taken within past 2 years. Do not use image synthesis.

  • How can I apply for the change of address on the driving license?

    1. Required documents:
    1) Original copy of national I.D. card or household registration certificate (plus other photo identity documents, such national health insurance card, passport, military I.D. card or driving license) or original copy of alien residence permit.
    2) The obtained original copy of driving license.
    3) For change application by post, please provide one photocopy of front side and back side of driving license for the supervision authority to write down the new address according to I.D. provided on the column of “address change” on the photocopy of the driving license.
    2. Bring all the required documents to the service desk at the highway supervision authority, pick up a number and wait for your turn, or submit the application by post.
    3. Notes:
    1) Please pay off the fines if there is any violation of road traffic management.
    2) License renewal will be required if the column of “address change” on the back of the driving license is full and please pay NT$50. An additional fee of NT$200 for license renewal will be imposed if the driving license is due.

  • What is the additional item for road test of large heavy motorcycle driving license?

    1. Other than the original subjects for road test, test of “balance driving on straight line” is added.
    2. The lane used for straight line balance driving is 15 meters in length and 40 centimeters in width. Applicants must not drive through it less than 7 seconds, and both front and rear wheels must be kept within the edge of lane with no foot touching the ground. For those who fail it at the first time, they will be given one additional chance.

  • What is the qualification required for large heavy motorcycle driving license test?

    Following qualifications are required for large heavy motorcycle driving license test:
    Age: Applicants who apply for large heavy motorcycle driving license must be at least 20 years old; no limitation for the maximum age.
    Experience: Applicants who apply for large heavy motorcycle driving license must have general heavy motorcycle driving license for more than one year as well as certificate of training completion at driving training institutions that are legally registered.
    Physical fitness: Applicants who apply for large heavy motorcycle driving license must pass physical fitness test.

    1. The academic subjects and teaching hours shall be delivered at driving school for large heavy motorcycle:
    1) Large heavy motorcycles with a cubic capacity not exceeding 550 cm³: The academic subjects include 1-hour driving ethics, 2-hour road traffic management regulations (Road Traffic Management and Penalty Act, Regulations for Road Traffic Safety, Highway Traffic Control Regulations, and Rules for Road Traffic Signs, Marked Lines, and Signals Installation), and 1-hour vehicle construction and knowledge for repairs; 4 hours in total.
    2) Large heavy motorcycles with a cubic capacity exceeding 550 cm³:The academic subjects include 2-hour driving ethics, 7-hour road traffic management regulations (Road Traffic Management and Penalty Act, Regulations for Road Traffic Safety, Highway Traffic Control Regulations, and Rules for Road Traffic Signs, Marked Lines, and Signals Installation), 1-hour vehicle construction and knowledge for repairs, 2-hour accident prevention and handling, 2-hour driving principle and method (including safe driving), and 1-hour first-aid knowledge; 15 hours in total.
    2. 14-hour driving training at the venue for skill test (including driving simulation) and basic driving practice and 14-hour applied driving practice.
    3. Skill subjects training items: Picking-up and racking, balance driving in a straight line, driving on a ramp way, railroad crossing, zebra crossing, intersection, driving in a circle, braking on a straight line, slowing down on a curve and stop, driving through continuous barriers, hook turn training, responsive driving training, and driving on the ring road.
    4. Items for skill test: Picking-up and racking, balance driving in a straight line (if failed at the first time, one re-test is allowed), driving on a ramp way, railroad crossing, zebra crossing, intersection, driving in a circle, braking on a straight line, driving on the ring road, and other operational skills.

  • How can I apply for learner’s permit?
    • Hits:1

    1. Required documents:
    1) National I.D. card or military I.D. card or alien residence permit.
    2) Three one-inch color photos with glossy single-color background, without wearing hat, with clear facial features, bust shot, and were taken within past 2 years. Do not use image synthesis.
    3) One “ordinary vehicle driving license registration form” with qualified health examination and physical fitness test.
    2. Place of application:
    Counter of learner’s permit application at section of driver management in the highway supervision authority.
    3. Fee: NT$100.
    4. Notes:
    1) Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
    2) Applicants can apply for reissuance of the lost learner’s permit (must be within the expiration).
    3) Application for learner’s permit will not be subject to the location of household registration, and application can be submitted at the local highway supervision authority.
    4) The validity of learner’s permit is one year after the permit collection date.

  • Can applicants who have missing limbs but are able to grip the handle after fitting prosthetic implant register automobile (motorcycle) driving license test?

    Applicants with one missing limb but are able to operate steering wheel freely after fitting assistive equipment can register light or general heavy motorcycle driving license test with automatic transmission cars or customized cars. Please comply with the following rules when registering small vehicle driving license test:
    1. Applicants with missing left hand or missing right hand and are able to deal with daily affairs independently without external force after fitting assistive equipment shall register license test in automatic transmission cars with a cramp ring mounted on the steering wheel.
    2. Applicants with missing left lower limb but healthy right lower limb and are able to move independently without external force after fitting assistive equipment shall register license test with automatic transmission cars.
    3. Applicants with missing left lower limb and functional disability on the right lower limb and are able to move independently without external force after fitting assistive equipment shall register license test with customized cars.
    4. Applicants with missing right lower limb but healthy left lower limb or functional disability and are able to move independently without external force after fitting assistive equipment shall register license test with customized cars.
    5. Applicants with other missing limbs and are able to move independently without external force after fitting assistive equipment shall register license test with customized cars.
    Applicants with missing limbs specified on paragraph 1 to 4 above and are granted general small vehicle driving license for more than 3 months can register small commercial vehicle driving license test.
