A 7.2-magnitude earthquake occurred in Hualien at 07:58 on April 3, 2024. The North District Maintenance Engineering Branch of the Highway Bureau, MOTC has jurisdiction over areas with earthquake intensity of 5 or above, including New Taipei City, Taoyuan City, and Hsinchu County. A preliminary inspection conducted by our Traffic Control Center through surveillance video equipment (CCTV) shows that all the provincial roads in our jurisdiction maintain normal traffic. Furthermore, each district maintenance office immediately sent personnel to give priority attention to slopes for areas with earthquake intensity above 4, highway structures and slopes for areas with earthquake intensity above 5.
We hereby reminds road users that sporadic rockfalls are currently occurring on mountainous highways such as Taiwan Line 7and Taiwan Line 9……etc., and manpower and machinery have been dispatched to clean them up. Considering that there may be larger aftershocks in the future, road users are advised to avoid driving on mountainous roads as much as possible, and please pay attention to the latest traffic control and disaster prevention information provided by the roadside highway information board (CMS) at any time. Please make frequent use of the in-time traffic information website of the Provincial roads(https://168.thb.gov.tw,)established by the Highway Bureau, MOTC and listen to the radio to receive traffic information.
