Starting from November 30, 2022, micro electric scooters are officially under regulation. To ride them on the road, owners must complete the registration and obtain compulsory insurance. Those who have not insured their scooters will be unable to process registration, license renewal, or issuance. Additionally, for micro electric scooters that have already passed inspection and display the qualified inspection sticker, registration and license plate issuance must be completed by November 29, 2024. Failure to comply will result in fines ranging from NT$1,200 to NT$3,600, and riding will be prohibited.
The three steps to license a micro electric scooter in use are as follows:
1. Apply for Factory Certificate: Obtain the factory certificate from the dealer.
2. Insurance: Purchase compulsory insurance (similar to the process for cars and motorcycles).
3. License Plate Registration: Visit the motor vehicle supervision unit for vehicle inspection, registration, and license plate issuance.
Taitung Station Director, Ms. Hong Mei-Fang, emphasizes that riders of micro electric scooters must be at least 14 years old, wear helmets, adhere to a maximum speed of 25 kilometers per hour, refrain from carrying passengers, avoid driving under the influence of alcohol, and not modify the vehicle without authorization. After the implementation of the new regulations, Taitung Station will periodically collaborate with law enforcement to strengthen inspections and enforcement against violations. For more information related to micro electric scooters, please contact Taitung Station at 089-311539, extensions 101 and 106. Lastly, vehicle owners are reminded to avoid unauthorized modifications, drunk driving, and to follow road signs, markings, and signals to ensure safe driving.
