At around 5:00 on December 28, 2023, an incident occurred at the 73k spot of the Coastal Highway of Taiwan 2 Line (toward Keelung). The driver of a coupled tanker lost control and crashed into a large truck parked on the road side, pushing the tractor in front of it. After receiving the notification, our Keelung district maintenance office and the Police Bureau of New Taipei City immediately rushed to the scene to deal with the incident, prioritizing the removal of scattered obstacles on the road and providing an inside lane for road users.

Since the Coastal Highway is an important transportation route for people's livelihood of the eastern region and the demand for large vehicle trips is very high, it will have a great impact on road users once a traffic accident occurs. Our Keelung district maintenance office responsible for the management and maintenance of Taiwan 2 Line not only maintains the quality of road surface actively but also sets up traffic facilities to warn drivers. Furthermore, it also conducted a report on the prevention of accidents involving large vehicles on the Taiwan 2 Line at the New Taipei City Road Security Conference this month, proposed plans such as interval speed measurement, engineering improvement, rest area planning...etc. which were also approved by the road safety consultant. In the future, we will work together with the Police Bureau, Transportation Bureau of New Taipei City and District Office to build a safer coastal highway and reduce accidents caused by large vehicles.

We once again calls on drivers of large vehicles to prepare enough energy before going out. Please be sure to check the loaded items properly and tie them securely before departure. When driving, please slow down moderately and never violate speed regulations. Vehicle machinery should be inspected and maintained regularly and frequently. If it causes injury to unspecified road users or damage to highway facilities, you will also face relevant claims and legal liabilities.

Please listen to the radio at any time to get the latest driving information and pay attention to the traffic control information released by the Changeable Message Signboard (CMS). Citizens who want to inquire the latest road conditions can use the in-time traffic information website of the Provincial roads(https://168.thb.gov.tw,)established by the Highway Bureau, MOTC, call (02)8687-5114 or the toll-free number of the Road Users Service Center at 0800-231-035.
