At about 6:00 in the morning on September 11, 2023 at the Magang section (107.9k) of the Coastal Highway, Taiwan 2 Line, a large tank truck didn’t pay attention to the situation in front of the vehicle and resulted in a collision between three large vehicles. The next day, at about 7:00 in the morning a chemical tank truck carrying calcium chloride collided and fell outside the guardrail at the Shuinandong section (79.5k) of the Taiwan 2 Line. Both the two accidents resulted in the need for single-line, two-way traffic at the accident sites and the two consecutive large vehicle accidents had a huge impact on the traffic safety of passers-by.

About the accidents mentioned above, our district maintenance office quickly dispatched its employees to eliminate the incidents and restore traffic order as soon as possible. Subsequently, we will clarify the responsibility of vehicle drivers and ask for compensation from the transportation company for the repair costs of related highway facilities. Because some sections of the Coastal Highway, Taiwan 2 Line are winding, we remind drivers of large vehicles to slow down moderately and pay attention to the situation in front of the vehicle at all times. Do not drive while fatigued to avoid injuring yourself and endangering others.

The Highway Bureau, MOTC reminds that the goods carried by freight vehicles should be fastened firmly and loaded safely. The machinery of the vehicle should be inspected and maintained regularly and do not let the goods fall due to careless preceding behavior. If the goods carried by freight vehicles fall and cause unspecific passers-by injured, the driver will not only receive a fine notification but also face related claims and legal responsibilities, so please listen to the radio at any time to get the latest driving information and pay attention to the traffic control information released by the Changeable Message Signboard (CMS). Citizens who want to inquire the latest road conditions can use the in-time traffic information website of the Provincial roads(http://168.thb.gov.tw,)established by the Highway Bureau, MOTC, call (02)8687-5114 or the toll-free number of the Passerby Service Center at 0800-231-035.
