After 5 years of use, every scooter must have an exhaust emission test annually. The test is free, and offered at many scooter repair shops. Now Lingya Vehicle Station provides exhaust emission test service once a month and encourages motorcycle owners to apply for the vehicle registration services and do the exhaust emission test at the same time.

According to Article 44 and Article 80 of the Air Pollution Control Act and the Pubic Announcement by the Environmental Protection Administration, all in-use motorcycles do not undergo periodic testing, the vehicles owners will be subject to an administrative fine ranging from NT$500 to NT$15,000. And those that fail to undergo periodic testing over 6 months after the date of such testing should be conducted as the law requires, will be subject to an administrative fine ranging from NT$3,000 to NT$60,000. If the vehicle exhaust emission testing is not completed more than six months overdue, the license plate will be cancelled.
