Recently, the Kaohsiung Motor Vehicles Office (KOMV) has received numerous complaints regarding instances where individuals mistakenly paid fuel fee at convenience stores due to not receiving their vehicle license tax payment notices. April marks the period for collecting vehicle license tax, and it serves as a reminder for all vehicle owners to verify the type of tax they intend to pay before proceeding with any payments.

Many car owners usually get confused about what kind of taxes they need to pay every year. There are two types of taxes (or fees) that car owners should pay. One is the vehicle license tax. The vehicle license tax is a tax that car owners have to pay annually to the local government where the vehicle is registered. The payment period is in April. On the other hand, the fuel fee is collected by the Highway Bureau, which is a government agency responsible for building and maintaining highways. The payment period is in July. It is important to note that electric vehicles are currently exempt from both the vehicle license tax and the fuel fee in Taiwan. This is part of the government's efforts to promote the adoption of electric vehicles and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The Revenue Service Office in Kaohsiung City has announced that the statutory payment period for the vehicle license tax of 2024 spans from April 1 to April 30. Taxpayers are urged to fulfill their obligations within the designated timeframe. Tax payment notices will be dispatched to taxpayers via mail by the tax collection authorities under their respective local governments. During the vehicle license tax collection period, individuals can utilize their personal or business certificates at convenience store KIOSK to inquire and print payment slips, subsequently direct payment at the convenience store counters. Should any further information, individuals can reach out for assistance by dialing the toll-free number 0800-000-321.
