| Content | Directorate General of Highways (DGH) participated in the “2021 International Federation of Landscape Architects, Asia-Pac Landscape Architecture (LA) Awards (Referred to as IFLA) competition”. The result of the selection: "Taiwan New Central Cross-island Provincial Highway No. 21" won "Award of Excellence" of the "Nature Conservation Category". It is an honor for DGH to participate in the competition and stand out among 397 outstanding works.
Taiwan Provincial Highway No. 21 is located at an altitude of 500-2,610 meters above sea level. Due to the large difference in terrain, there are rich ecological resources. It is one of the ten most beautiful scenic highways in Taiwan.
From daily road inspections, it is found that there are many traces of wild animals (such as Muntjac, Mikado Pheasant, Formosan yellow-throated marten and Formosan macaque) along this road. DGH put effort into maintenance work, such as using on-site materials, building eco-friendly facilities restoring habitat, and always learning from nature... In addition, Road closure measures have been implemented at night, so that the mountains and forests can be restored to tranquility, vegetation and animals can be revived, and all life can share this beautiful mountain forest.
The award-winning sections uphold an environment-friendly attitude, so that the road returns to its most natural and simple appearance day by day. We look forward to people from all over the world coming to visit this ecological landscape road and experience the beauty of Taiwan.
