| Content | On the morning of December 18, 2022, President Tsai Ing-wen, along with Premier Su Chen-chang, Minister Wang Guo-chai of the Ministry of Trans-portation and Communications, Director General Chen Wen-Rui of the Direc-torate General of Highways, Director General Ye Xie-Long of the Maritime Port Bureau, and Chairman Lee Hsien-Yi of the Taiwan International Ports Corporation, Ltd., officiated at the opening ceremony of the Nanfangao Bridge reconstruction project at the Nanfangao Fishing Port in Yilan County. The ceremony is attended by Administrative Councilor Wu Ze-Cheng, Yilan County Mayor Lin Chi-Miao, Legislative Councilor Chen Ou-Po, Yilan County Councilors, village chiefs, and other representatives of public opinion and local citizens. The scene is full of anticipation and a joyful atmosphere.
It has been 3 years since the collapse of the old bridge on October 1, 2019. On December 18, 2022, the new one is successfully rebuilt as its original location, and an opening ceremony is held. The new bridge is designed as a three-span continuous variable section with ribbed pre-stressed box girder bridge, with a total length of 796.53 meters, including 595 meters of bridges and 201.53 meters of approach roads, and a deck width of 13-14.6 meters. The bridge shape is inspired by the " hometown of mackerel" in Nanfangao fishing port. Pedestrian walkways, modeling railings, and installation art are set up on both sides of the road, and an artistic light sculpture system is used at night to combine traffic and tourism.
Taiwan Ceci Engineering Consultants, Inc. is this project's design and super-vision unit, and the contractor is NewAsia Construction. The project cost is $957 million and the construction period is 899 days.
The Suhua Highway Improvement Project Office constructed the Nanfangao Bridge, and the construction team worked day and night to achieve the mis-sion. Despite the weather conditions in Yilan, the construction team overcame many obstacles and difficulties, and under the premise of safety and quality, the residents were able to regain a strong, reliable, and beautiful Nanfangao Bridge that represents the landmark of Suao town.
