On the morning of the 9th, between 10:00 am and 12:00 pm, the Hualien Branch of the Eastern Region Branch Office, Directorate General of Highways, MOTC (Ministry of Transportation and Communications) held a disaster prevention and control drill for 2023. The purpose of this drill was to simulate a scenario involving a car accident in the Tiaolang II Tunnel at the 20k+400 marker on Provincial Highway No. 11 as well as a landslide on the slope of the Shuilian Section, and to test the disaster prevention and control measures taken by the highway management unit as well as related cross-functional units in response to these situations. The goal was to minimize the impact on the highway transportation system and ensure the safety of road users by establishing effective cross-functional communication, support, and assistance in the event of highway disasters.

The drill was realistic and intense, and the response to the disaster situation was prompt and accurate, in accordance with the standard operating procedures (SOP) of the Directorate General of Highways for disaster prevention and rescue. The drill was divided into two parts: internal disaster prevention as well as rescue operations and field exercises, with the exercises concluding at 11:00 am. In addition to thanking road users for their cooperation and the highway management unit for implementing traffic controls during the drill, the Directorate General of Highways would also like to express our sincere gratitude to the Ji’an Branch of the Hualien County Police Department, the Hualien County Fire Department, Taipower’s Hualien Business Office, and Chunghwa Telecom’s Hualien Operation Office for their active participation and cooperation in the drill.

The Directorate General of Highways reminds road users to ensure road safety by paying attention to their vehicle and the road conditions while driving. Please also make good use of the Directorate General of Highways’ Provincial Highway Real-time Information Service (http://168.thb.gov.tw) and keep an ear tuned for updated traffic news from the Police Broadcasting Service. The Directorate General of Highways wishes you a safe journey.
