Due to epidemic unblocking and border opening, the general public has arranged overseas travel plan recently, and some of them have adopted self-guided tour and self-driving tour. According to statistics made by Taichung City Motor Vehicles Station, in the period from January to February, 2023, general public has applied Japanese version of driver license and international driver license in a total of 5,106 cases, which was 10 times the case number of the same term of last year.
The chief of Taichung City Motor Vehicles Station, Guo-Yuan Lin, says that if general public has driving needs while staying abroad, and if the country they stayed has reciprocal agreement in driver license with Taiwan, then the public can carry original ID, original Taiwan’s motorcycle or automobile driver license, two 2 inch photos taken in recent two years, passport and fee of 250 NT dollars to go to Motor Vehicles station to apply for international driver license; and the validation period will be three years after the application date. However, if you are about to go to Japan, you only need to bring your own original ID, the original Taiwan’s motorcycle and automobile driver license and 100 NT dollars to apply for Japanese translation version of driver license. What needs to be noticed is that Japanese translation version should be used together with Taiwan’s driver license; therefore, if the driver license is expired, it needs to be updated first.
Taichung City Motor Vehicles Station would like to remind the public to remember to apply for international driver license or Japanese translation version while they are planning their overseas travel; meanwhile, the public should also understand and obey the local traffic regulation to avoid fine due to violated behavior or the influence of travel mood due to the occurrence of traffic accident.
