Mini Electric Two-wheel Vehicle has become a popular mean of transportation among foreign workers, elderly people, and students due to their lightweight design and the fact that they can be ridden without a driver's license. To improve road safety, laws have been amended to require these vehicles to be licensed and covered by mandatory liability insurance in order to be driven on roads, effective since November 30th, 2022. Owners currently in use must apply for a license plate within two years of the implementation date. Failure to obtain a license plate and drive on road result in penalty of no less than NT$1,200 and no more than NT$3,600, and driving without a license plate is prohibited.

Luo Zhenrui, the director of the Pingtung Station, reminds riders of Mini Electric Two-wheel Vehicle that their age must be at least 14, wear a safety helmet, not carry passengers, not drink and drive or use drugs, adhere to a maximum speed limit of 25 kilometers per hour, and are prohibited from modifying their vehicles without authorization. In addition, to encourage current users of mini electric two-wheel vehicle to register their vehicles as soon as possible, those who complete the application and registration process before December 31st, 2023 will be free from paying the license and license plate fees, totaling NT$450.

The Pingtung Station also provides on-site service to facilitate the public in obtaining licenses at nearby locations. For information on the schedule and location of the on-site service, please contact Office or local dealers. Information for mini electric two-wheel vehicle can be found on the MVDIS website (https://www.mvdis.gov.tw).
