Drivers of large trucks shall note that the maximum speed limit for trucks weighing over 20 tons on certain sections of the Western Coast Expressway of Provincial Highway 61 (Taiwan) was adjusted to 80 km/h as of March 1st, 2023.

Mr. Jiang Shu-ren, Director of the Taipei City Motor Vehicles Office, stated that the Western Coast Expressway of Provincial Highway 61 (Taiwan) has recently become one of the road sections where people pay more attention to driving safety. The Directorate General of Highways, Ministry of Transportation and Communications has also revised and promoted the maximum speed limit for large trucks weighing over 20 tons on three sections of Provincial Highway 61 (Taiwan) to be 80 km/h, and the promotion period will end on February 28th of this year (2023). The Directorate General also instructed all regional motor vehicles offices to strengthen promotion to the freight industry and supervise them in enhancing their safety management of both personnel and vehicles.

Large trucks belong to the heavy vehicles category, for which drivers need to have proficient driving skills and prioritize road safety to avoid major accidents. The Taipei City Motor Vehicles Office continues to assist freight vehicles in controlling their speed on Provincial Highway 61 (Taiwan). In addition to issuing guidance notices and broadcasting on local radio stations, freight and container industry associations have also been asked to promote the message to their members. For those who exceed the speed limit of 90 km/h for two or more vehicles during the promotion period, officials will visit the company to provide guidance and management. Through multiple channels and continuous reminders, the company is required to strengthen the safety awareness of its staff in order to maintain the safety of all road users.

The following sections of the Western Coast Expressway of Provincial Highway 61 (Taiwan) will have their speed limits adjusted to 80 km/h for large trucks weighing over 20 tons starting March 1, 2023, with the promotion period ending in February 28, 2023:

From 6K+000 to 13K+000 (from Bali Third Interchange to Linkou Interchange)

From 16K+300 to 60K+500 (from Donghua Intersection to Xinfeng 2nd Interchange)

From 101K+200 to 305K+750 (from Waipu Interchange to Shifen Interchange)

The Taipei City Motor Vehicles Office once again reminds drivers that starting March 1, 2023, large trucks weighing over 20 tons traveling on the Taiwan Provincial Highway 61 should reduce their speed in line with the new speed limit to ensure the safety of all road users.
