Required documents for motorcycle driving license


    • Nationals: National I.D. card or another valid driving license.
    • Foreigners and overseas Chinese: Proof of staying permit or alien residence permit for more than 6 months (such as alien residence permit).
    • People from China, Hong Kong and Macau (Mainland Chinese spouses): Proof of staying permit or alien residence permit for more than 6 months.
    • Foreign spouses: Proof of staying permit or alien residence permit for more than 6 months (such as alien residence permit or national I.D. card).
    • Residences in Hong Kong and Macau: Proof of alien residence permit for more than 6 months, such as Residence certificate for the Taiwan area.
  1. Three one-inch color photos with glossy single-color background, without wearing hat, with clear facial features, bust shot, and were taken within past 2 years. Do not use image synthesis (the same as health exam form).
  2. One driving license registration form with medical clearance confirmation.
  3. Registration fee: NT$250 for general heavy motorcycles, NT$250 for light motorcycle; driving license fee: NT$200.

Health examination and physical fitness test

  1. Please carry out your health examination and physical fitness test at public hospitals, public health centers, or the clinics and groups entrusted by motor vehicles offices.
  2. Physical fitness test is not required for the motorcycle driving license.
  3. If the health examination has been passed when applying for the learner’s permit, no examination will be required within one year.

Notes

  1. Applicant who registers for general driving license test must be at least 18 years old.
  2. For professional driving license, the applicant must be at least 20 years old and must not be over 65 years old.
  3. For those who are failed on the written exam or road test, they can only submit the registration again after 7 days.
  4. The health examination form and the result of the written exam are valid for one year.
  5. For those who register for general driving license for small vehicles, they must have learner’s permit first. 
  6. For those who register for professional driving license for small vehicles, they must obtain general driving license for small vehicle first. 

Safety drive seminar for drivers who obtain the motorcycle driving license the first time

In order to increase awareness of safety drive on the drivers who obtain the motorcycle driving license the first time as well as ensure traffic safety, Directorate General of Highways follows the provision of Article 8 in Guidelines for Road Traffic Safety Seminar and implements 120-minute free motorcycle safety drive seminar for their first driving license test from December 1st, 2018. The seminar will be carried out before the written exam.

  1. Object: Applicants who apply for motorcycle driving license the first time.
  2. Content: It includes 40-minute video case study at motorcycle accidents, 50-minute academic teaching on safety drive, and 30-minute motorcycle defensive driving teaching. Evaluation and questionnaire survey will be carried after the seminar.
  3. Unit: Each local motor vehicles office.
