| Repair and recovery program for damaged highway system struck by Typhoon MORAKOT |
| In Aug 7th, 2009, Taiwan was hit by Typhoon Morakot, heavy rain caused sudden river water risen among Nan-zi-xian river, Lao-nong river, Qi-shan river, Gaoping river, Zeng-wen river, where causes severe damages to the livelihood facilities in middle and southern part of the island. Highways and bridges which under the jurisdiction of Directorate General of Highway bear the worst damages from the typhoon. |
| The program is to improve and maintain provincial highways, county roads and township roads in order to form a complete road system network. It provides safe and smooth transportation, and maintains safe commute for visitors and local people. The program copes with the need of local industrial transportation and stimulates local economy and tourism, it regains trust and reliability from the locals toward transportation facilities. |
| Working objective of 2010: |
| 1. Provincial highway: reconstruct and repair provincial highway No.16 Jiji to Shuili section, provincial highway No.21 Shuili to Tatajia section, provincial highway No.18 Chukou to ZiZhong section, provincial highway No.17 Shuang-Yuan Bridge (Linyuan to Xinyuan section), provincial highway No.20 border of Tainan and Kaohsiung to Yakouwulu section, provincial highway No.21 Xiaolin to Jiaxian Namaxia section, provincial highway No.24 Sandimen to Wutai-Ali section, provincial highway No.27 Jia-Xian Liu-Gui section. |
| 2. County and township road:provide subsidies for 7 local governments include Nantou County, Yunlin County, Chaiyi County, Tainan County , Kaohsiung County, Pingtung County and Taitung County for repairs and reconstructions for county roads and township roads. |
| 3. Base on traffic necessity and home land over planning, the reparations of highway systems damaged by typhoon Morakot was divided into three degree. Thirteen repair construction projects were categorizes as degree A, three for degree B, and two for degree C. |
